Cordele Judicial Circuit – Assistant Public Defender (Grant Funded)


The Cordele Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking to hire client-focused attorney for grant funded Assistant Public Defender position in the Crisp, Dooly, Ben Hill and Wilcox counties.

Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position, including preparing cases for trial, zealously advocating and defending their client, seeking and negotiating plea dispositions, and entering pleas in felony cases in Superior Court. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. A strong commitment to indigent defense is also required.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender – Grant Funded will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony and appellate cases.

Grant Funding & Duration: These positions are funded through the State of Georgia, funding is apportioned for at least two years of employment after a candidate’s hire date.

JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER – GRANT FUNDED

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
