Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education - Federal Programs is hiring for a Director of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This position is responsible for providing statewide oversight for the implementation of the federal grants to local educational agencies (LEA) from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  Duties include but are not limited to:

Job Duties

  • Oversee a diverse range of support, operational, and programmatic activities for the Federal Programs division
  • recommends and implements policies and procedures related to the ESSA programs; leads annual grant application, grant implementation, and grant monitoring activities
  • Oversees and evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of division activities
  • Lead the development of training and resources; prepares items for review by the State Board of Education
  • Monitors program budgets; provides leadership and supervision to subordinate managers and staff
  • Collaborate with LEAs and agency staff on consolidating federal funds in schoolwide programs and the provisioning of equitable services to private school children
  • Other duties as assigned

     

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Hold Georgia professional educator certification 

  • Expertise in the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 

  • Experience with provisioning of equitable services to private school children 

  • Understanding of and experience with consolidation of funds in schoolwide programs 

  • Expertise with federal grant guidance, regulations, and fiscal requirements 

  • Experience with program evaluation and reporting 

  • Experience with state procurement and purchasing procedures 

  • Experience with professional learning and training adults 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. Statewide travel is required.

Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or ten (10) years of related professional experience which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or six (6) years of experience required at the lower level Sr Mgr 2, Business Ops (GSM013) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
