Specialized Unit- Assistant Public Defender III


The Georgia Public Defender Council, Specialized Unit Division in the Central Office, is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender III. Qualified candidates must possess the skills and experience necessary to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants must be experienced criminal defense attorneys with demonstrated trial experience and the ability to travel as required. Candidates must also be current members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. A strong commitment to indigent defense and the provision of high-quality legal representation is essential. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender III provides competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients within the Complex Division of the Superior and Magistrate Courts. This position involves performing mid-level professional legal work, including handling cases of routine to moderate complexity. In addition, the Assistant Public Defender III may serve as lead or supporting counsel on serious, high-profile, and significant felony cases, requiring advanced legal knowledge and strong advocacy skills. Performs other related duties as required.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal -experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
