Duties and Responsibilities:

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (Department) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant General Counsel (AGC). Under supervision of the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel, the AGC actively participates in advising the Department's management team with respect to the laws, regulations, and court decisions that relate to the operation of the Department.

The AGC interprets and gives advice regarding the administration of Georgia's Driver's License laws; plans and assists with the work of Department staff providing a variety of legal services; and conducts trainings throughout the state for judges, law enforcement, judicial staff, and attorneys. The AGC must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with other Department managers.

The State of Georgia and the Department are eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness employers. Employment with the State of Georgia and the Department includes thirteen (13) state-paid days off (State holidays) in addition to the accrual of leave 240 hours (30 days) of sick and annual leave per calendar year. A pre-employment background check is required for the selected candidate.

Competencies Needed:

Knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia

OR

Eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage AND licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity AND one (1) year of relevant legal experience;

OR

One (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 1 (LEP020).

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have:

A minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as a licensed attorney. AND Experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:

* Criminal practice

* Driver's license laws

* Civil practice

* Employment law
